Hemorrhoids Treatment Device
The Instalief cold therapy applicator relieves pain from piles easily and instantly. The applicator tip is self inserted into the anus and when squeezed, a balloon expands with cooled water, relieving pain. Once the pain subsides, the applicator can be easily deflated, removed and disposed of. There are two core elements that enable this device to be effective, the first is a salt and water mixture that cools the water down to 4 deg C within seconds, and a balloon with a quick release valve to effectively deliver the cooled water to the target area efficiently.
I was involved in the project from its inception, ideating valve concepts to control the flow of liquid from bottle to balloon and back. Valve ideas were prototyped and tested for ergonomics and efficacy on a breadboard prototypes. Once the selected valve mechanism had been verified, we began detailing for a more refined design using simple manufacturing methods. This allowed our client to estimate costs and factor it into their business model.
