Open Cavity Surgical Lighting
KLARO is a single use bendable light source for assisting surgeons in deep cavity open surgeries when overhead lighting is inadequate. At 4.6mm diameter It removes the need for headlamps by providing even lighting within the narrowest of cavities. With 4 hours of battery life and a max temperature of 38C it is appropriate for most open surgery applications. The driver can be easily clipped on to surgical drapes enabling handsfree usage.
One of the major challenges was managing the amount of heat generated from the LEDs when inside a body cavity. We experimented with various materials to ensure durability from repeated bending as well as adequate heat transfer away from the LEDs.
